Texas Trip - Chapter 3 - The Riverwalk

Next on the stop was the Riverwalk. The Riverwalk is anchored by a huge mall, and consists of many walkways along the river, surrounded by shops, restaurants, churches, and buildings. There are many special events throughout the year along the Riverwalk. Around Christmas, my parents take a group of carolers down, and they ride the boats along the river, caroling to those strolling alongside the river. At Christmas, there are lights hanging from each tree over the river, and it transforms the area into a magic, sparkly, oh-so-Christmasy feeling - of course, they don't have snow, so they have to get into the Christmas spirit somehow! There have lots of parades on the river, including at St. Patrick's day when they dye the river green. The best way to experience the whole Riverwalk is to take a Riverboat Tour. The tour gives history of the area and the buildings, and usually throws in some humor. Although it was a bit drizzly, we enjoyed our Riverboat tour immensely!
Dad, who's usually behind the camera, handsome Husband, and I enjoy the tour.
Some of the downtown buildings right on the river's edge.
One of the many hotels along the Riverwalk. These are some of the trees that are draped in lights at Christmas!
The San Antonio Convention Center was recently redone, and the Riverwalk makes for a beautiful setting for the guests visiting it. Again, it's done in that Texas Limestone that is everywhere!

The brightly colored umbrellas are at a restuarnt called Casa Rio. Husband and I were able to meet up with our good friends Tracey & Dennis for a wonderful supper here! Tracey is my dear "childhood" friend, and no matter how long I might go between getting to visit with her, it feels like it was no time at all. We were so blessed to have Tracey and Dennis make the trip up for our wedding in October - where they were the hit of the party! They are such fun, charismatic people and everyone can't help but love them! We're hoping to schedule a fun trip somewhere with them and some of their other friends soon! It was such a wonderful evening to catch up, and enjoy some of the most delicious queso, chicken enchiladas, and sangria I've ever had - and all at such reasonable prices! Check out Casa Rio if you are on the Riverwalk - and request a table on the river!
