Blizzard

We've had storms and rain every day of this month. We haven't had to use our sprinklers since we returned from Seattle! We've loved getting the moisture, but don't like the threat of hail and the actual tornados that come with it. We even lost power last night. That reminded me of a time we lost power earlier this year. We had a BIG blizzard at the beginning of April, with LOTS of snow piled up and an evening of reading by candlelight as my husband worked out in the mess the weather was creating. Husband said last night was so eeire - there was no power in the city at all and it looked like a zombie movie, walking around the downtown with all the people and no lights. There was a fire in one of the hotels, and they were trying to get everyone to the lobby while it was dark and smokey; Husband and another officer took care of the fire before the fire department could even get there because since he used to be a fireman Husband knew just what to do! There were 8-10' drifts, and cars were covered so only their antennas were showing. He said even while in their 4 wheel drive police car, they got stuck numerous times and even had to get pulled out by a towing truck once. Throughout all this, they had no radios, as those went down, too! He said there are definately days it'd be nice to have the perk of snow days! Our backyard has drifts that are "only" about 5' high. Last night, the first time I tried to let Callie out (after shoving open the screen door enough for her to shimmy through), she flat out refused. She planted her feet and wouldn't budge. The second time, she had to go out bad enough she went after only a little hedging. However, she really hesitated coming back in because the door could barely open with the drifts. This morning, Husband had to shovel out the door before we could let her out. She was a bit confused as to why her backyard shrank at first, but then she found the pass Husband had shoveled to even get the door and had fun galloping around the yard.
